7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Location
William Andrews Clark Memorial Library
2520 Cimarron Street

The Southern California-based artist, printer, and publisher Vance Gerry (19292005) was born and raised in Pasadena, California. He worked for the Walt Disney Animation Studio for many years as a layout and story sketch artist. He later became a professional printer and founded numerous presses, including The Weather Bird Press.

The Clark Library holds Vance Gerry’s archives, comprising illustrations, layout sketches, galley, page, and signature proofs, dummies, correspondence, ephemera, pochoir samples, and stencils, as well as nearly 100 books printed by Gerry’s press, The Weather Bird Press.

Please join us in celebrating Gerry’s work with an outdoor screening of one of the many Disney movies showcasing his work, the 1961 animated feature 101 Dalmatians.

The grounds will open at 7:30 p.m. for those who are only attending the screening. We also invite you to join us for a pre-screening lecture on Vance Gerry’s life and work presented by author Robert Bothamley.

Please note: due to limited space, the lecture requires a separate booking.

The grounds will open at 7:30 p.m. for those who are only attending the outdoor screening. Space is on a first-come, first-served basis, and may not be guaranteed for late arrivals. Screening attendees are invited to bring their own blankets, low lawn chairs, dinner picnics, and insect repellent. Attendees are responsible for disposing of their own trash in onsite receptacles. Music and pets are not permitted for this special event.

Free parking is available at the Clark Library on a first-come, first-served basis. Street parking is also available. The Clark Library is also served by MTA Bus 37 (Adams & Cimarron), 209 (Arlington & Adams), or Dash Midtown (Adams & Cimarron).
