Former Director Norman Thrower Passes Away

Published: September 10, 2020

We have received the sad news that our former director, Professor Emeritus Norman Thrower, passed away at his home in Pacific Palisades on September 2, 2020. Professor Thrower had a long and verdant association with the Clark Library, and he served as its director from 1981–1987. He was instrumental in the founding of the Center for 17th– & 18th-Century Studies in 1985, and served as the Center’s inaugural director. Throughout his life he was an avid supporter of the Clark and the Center, serving on the Director’s Advisory Council, attending Chamber Music at the Clark concerts, and providing for us as a longtime donor. He spent his celebrated career at UCLA as a professor in the Department of Geography.
