Arts on the Grounds: Box Tale Soup’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray”

Published: October 30, 2025

It is always a pleasure to welcome award-winning British theater company Box Tale Soup to the Clark Library as our artists-in-residence. This Fall they returned with a reimagining of their original Arts on the Grounds adaptation of The Picture of Dorian Gray, featuring a new set, handcrafted puppets, and an evocative original soundtrack.

Noel Byrne, Antonia Christophers, and Mark Collier arrived with two vintage trunks packed with their handmade puppets and props, and quickly transformed the Clark Library’s Drawing Room into the world of Dorian Gray. On October 4 and 5 members of the public and donors enjoyed free seventy-minute presentations followed by Q & A sessions that brought Oscar Wilde’s haunting tale to life through Box Tale Soup’s signature blend of puppetry, movement, and richly detailed storytelling. Guests were captivated by the company’s innovative style and visual surprises.
