On Sunday, May 3, the Center & Clark were thrilled to present Art of Duo: A Journey through Europe to the USA from 1700 to 1930, an engaging lecture-concert tracing the evolution of the violin and piano duo across centuries and continents. The program featured works spanning the Baroque to the early twentieth century, each introduced with insightful commentary that highlighted the historical and cultural contexts behind the music.

Performed by Ambroise Aubrun and Steven Vanhauwaert, both making their debut on the Clark series, the concert was not only musically rich but also intellectually vibrant. Their lively presentation drew the audience into the repertoire’s narrative and offered accessible insights into each piece. The final work, Menuchim’s Song by Eric Zeisl, was made especially meaningful by the presence of Barbara Zeisl, the composer’s daughter, in the audience.
It was an afternoon marked by thoughtful interpretation, historical richness, and high-caliber performance, another shining example of the Center & Clark’s commitment to bringing exceptional music and scholarship to the community. Ambroise and Steven will return to the series for another event on April 18, 2026.
